Engineering Design Lab
Through study and practice, students in Engineering Design Lab gain an understanding and appreciation of the "Art" of engineering. This sequence helps students to:
- Learn basic experimental techniques, devices, and methods used in a broad variety of engineering disciplines
- Understand fundamental engineering methods and develop skills to use them
- Improve written and oral communication skills
- Use the computer as a professional and intellectual tool
- Plan, successfully execute, and report the results of engineering projects
- Learn to work effectively as a member of an engineering team
This sequence is experience-based, consisting of a series of computer laboratories, engineering experiments, individual and/or team projects, and related lectures. Lectures and laboratory work (some info located on the website) stress the common elements of experimentation and provide experience in a variety of scientific and engineering areas.
Each week in the Computer/Design Center, students attend a two-hour practicum where they master computing techniques by completing an engineering project. This project requires the use of one or more software packages that they will continue to use in future courses and projects.
The lecture series introduces students to scientific and engineering world views, methods, and enterprises. Students become involved in a highly interactive series of sessions that help to develop professional knowledge and skills. They also learn the basic elements of problem-solving techniques and are encouraged to use these techniques in projects, laboratories, and other courses.
Computer/Design Center
The Drexel Engineering Curriculum is an innovative program in which prospective engineers learn in a "hands on" fashion. The program which began as E-4 is a revolutionary step in Engineering Education. The Drexel Curriculum has integrated the important aspects of Engineering in its course of study and eliminated the excess.

Laboratory Policies
The policies posted here are subject to change without notice.
- No Food or Drink in ANY of the labs at ANY time! You will be asked to leave and return when you have finished eating. This does not apply to employees on lunch break. Your grade could be affected and is determined on a case by case basis by either the TA or co-op.
- No Games, No Offensive or Discriminatory Material (as determined by the Director of the Laboratories and the Laboratory Services Coordinators), No Sound Clips or Videos with sound (unless it is part of the lab), No Running of Software not on the Storage volume (unless it is part of the lab) and No Pirated or Illegal software. Violation of this rule will result in dismissal from the lab. Two violations will result in disciplinary action.
- You are not to alter the machine configuration in ANY way. This only creates one less machine for you and your classmates to use to do labs which will affect your grade(s). Any student caught destroying lab equipment will result in disciplinary action and loss of privileges.
- You are allowed in the Lab during your scheduled lab time and designated open times only! The hours will be posted on the tDEC website and outside of each lab.
